Near Keystone | About 1–1.5 hours from Denver
If you’re looking for good places to go in Colorado that mix adventure with incredible photo ops, Pass Lake should be at the top of your list. It sits near the top of Molas Pass in southwest Colorado, and it’s every bit as dreamy as it sounds. The still water mirrors the peaks and pines, creating a peaceful, romantic atmosphere that feels straight out of a romance book.
This spot is perfect if you want your engagement photos to feel serene and intimate. Especially at sunrise or sunset when the light turns the mountains gold and pink.
Best time to visit: Late June through early October (snow often lingers into June).
Other things to do nearby: Ride the historic Silverton-Durango train, explore downtown Silverton, or take a scenic drive along the Million Dollar Highway.
2. Crested Butte
About 4.5 hours from Denver
Crested Butte is basically heaven on earth for mountain lovers. Known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, this mountain town bursts into color every July.
For engagement sessions, you can start in town with its charming, colorful main street. Then head up to the Umbrella Bar at the top of Mount Crested Butte. From there, you’ll get panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, and maybe even a post-session drink as the sun dips behind the mountains.

3. Lily Lake in Estes Park
1.5 hours from Denver
If you love the look of Rocky Mountain National Park but want something simpler and more accessible, Lily Lake is your spot. The easy, flat trail circles the water with stunning mountain reflections and wildflowers all around.
It’s one of my favorite engagement photo locations for couples who want those classic Colorado mountain views without the long hikes or complex permits. Lily Lake is also one of those good places to go in Colorado if you want to pair your session with a weekend exploring Estes Park or relaxing by the water.
Best time to visit: Late spring through early fall — early morning is best for calm water and fewer people.
Other things to do nearby: Explore downtown Estes Park, visit the iconic Stanley Hotel, or grab a drink at Avant Garde Aleworks.
4. Brainard Lake in Ward
1 hour and 15 minutes from Denver
Brainard Lake sits high in the Indian Peaks Wilderness and might be one of the most picture-perfect alpine lakes in the state. Surrounded by evergreens and snow-dusted summits, it’s got that “we’re in the mountains” energy without being too far from the city.
There is endless variety here! You can wander along the shoreline, explore nearby trails, or venture up toward Long Lake for even more dramatic views. It’s a local favorite and one of the good places to go in Colorado for couples who love a mix of ease and epic scenery.

After your session, you can drive up the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway for sweeping alpine views. This is one of the highest paved roads in North America! It’s a full experience — start with cozy lake shots, end with epic mountaintop views.

The gardens are full of variety: winding paths, water features, florals, and architecture that make your photos feel cinematic and full of life.
Best time to visit: Late spring through early fall when blooms are at their peak.
